MFL
The MFL curriculum at St Mary’s sees the children being taught to develop an interest in learning other languages in a way that is enjoyable and inspiring. We endeavour to stimulate and encourage children’s curiosity about language learning through the teaching of German at our school. We strive to embed the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing necessary to enable children to use and apply their German learning in a variety of contexts and lay the foundations for future language learning. We feel the increased capability in the use of MFL by our pupils will promote initiative, confidence and independent learning and encourages their knowledge and understanding of diversity within society.
Spirituality/ British Values
Modern Foreign Languages links closely to the British Values of Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those with different faiths or beliefs which states: Students should be taught to show empathy and understanding of people from different backgrounds. Give pupils regular opportunities to learn about different cultures and beliefs to reinforce messages of tolerance and respect. This will allow them to understand and respect different values different from their own. Through teaching MFL, children have access to cultural learning and can broaden their awareness and respect for international studies.
